Lenses and Coatings

Choosing the best lens to suit your needs can be as daunting as choosing a new frame!

Our highly trained staff is here to assist you with all the different lens options which include:

Progressive Lenses

The new design of progressive lenses are not like the lined bifocals your parents wore, and not even like the progressives you may have worn in the past! The latest designs in progressive lenses have eliminated common complaints like peripheral distortion, “swim”, and a narrow reading area.

Our doctors and staff will be able to fit you with a lens design that will give you the best vision possible.

Computer Glasses

If you use a computer for hours every day, consider having a pair of glasses specifically for this use. We can design a prescription that will minimize eye strain and fatigue while you are using your computer. Our patients who are heavy computer users tell us that this is the best investment they have ever made in eyewear!

Studies have shown that prolonged exposure to blue light from screens can contribute to eye diseases such as macular degeneration. You may also want to consider the Recharge anti glare coating specifically designed to decrease glare and blue light transmission from computer screens.

Anti-Reflective Coatings

Reflections on lenses can be distracting and annoying. Adding an anti-reflective coating to your lenses gives you clearer vision and less glare. We highly recommend an anti-glare coating for computer users, people who have problems driving at night and for higher prescriptions. Technological advances have made the coatings we offer easy to keep clean and highly durable.

Anti-Scratch Coatings

All our lenses come with an anti-scratch coating. Our TD2 plastic lenses compare favourably with the durability of glass lenses without the weight of glass.

Transition Tints

Having your prescription glasses tint automatically when you go outside is a very convenient alternative to sunglass clips or prescription sunglasses. Our new generation transition lenses change from light to dark and back again much more quickly than ever before. They also have the benefit of 100% UV protection which protects the eyes when outdoors. You can even get a transition tint which is polarized!

Polarized Lenses

Polarized lenses are the lens of choice for people who enjoy spending time outdoors. A dark tinted sunglass lens will reduce the light that enters the eye but does nothing to eliminate glare. Polarized sunglasses eliminate annoying glare off of horizontal surfaces like lakes, vehicle hoods or snow and are available in single vision or progressive prescriptions.

High Index Lenses

As anyone with a significant prescription will tell you, the higher the prescription the thicker and heavier the lenses will be. You may have also seen or owned glasses that made your eyes look magnified or minified. High index materials are available that make your prescription thinner and lighter and reduce the magnification or minification of your eye. We recommend high index lenses for all moderate and high prescriptions in order to make the glasses feel and look their best.

Sunglasses

Studies have conclusively shown that our lifetime exposure to damaging UV light is a contributing cause to many eye diseases such as cataracts and macular degeneration. We cannot encourage people enough to wear a good quality sunglass from childhood on when outdoors. We carry the Real Kids line of sunglasses for children in prescription and nonprescription which provide 100% UV protection in the safest lens material possible. For adults we also carry Maui Jim, and Oakley sunglasses which are available in prescription and non prescription as well.

Contact Lenses

For our patient’s convenience, we stock Acuvue Oasys, Ultra and Purevision 2 lenses. However we are able to order any contact lens currently available on the market as well.

We encourage our patients who wear lenses daily to purchase a yearly supply of contact lenses. Not only does this save you money as manufacturer’s rebates are available when you purchase a yearly supply, but it is also saves you the time of having to return to our office to purchase more over the year.

Sports Eyewear

Eye protection during sports is crucial for all ages.  Most eye injuries to children occur while playing sports. We stock Rec Specs frames in all sizes which use polycarbonate lenses, the safest material available, in prescription and non prescription to protect your vision while being active.

Safety Eyewear

Safety frames and lenses must meet CSA approved standards to qualify for use in the industrial workplace. We are proud to partner with the Eye Safe program to offer safety glasses to a variety of employers in Alberta. If you are looking for a pair of safety glasses on your own, we have a wide selection of frames to choose from.
